Delhi APP 2026 Last Date 2 October: How to Apply Step by Step

The Delhi APP 2026 last date is 2 October 2026, 6:00 PM, so applicants have very little time left. UPSC has advertised 140 Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) posts in the Directorate of Prosecution, Government of NCT of Delhi. This guide is written mainly for law graduates and practising advocates, and explains legal terms in plain language.

An APP is a government lawyer who conducts criminal cases for the State before Magistrate courts. UPSC released the notification on 10 September 2026 and the online window opened on 12 September. The 9 October date seen on some websites applies only to the Ladakh posts in the same advertisement, not to Delhi APP.

What Does an Assistant Public Prosecutor Do?

An APP is a government lawyer who conducts criminal cases on behalf of the State, usually before Magistrate courts. The APP does not represent the police or the victim personally. The role is to present the case fairly for the State.

Legal Framework Behind the Post

  • Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS): the criminal procedure law that replaced the CrPC from 1 July 2024. Section 18 deals with Public Prosecutors, Section 19 with Assistant Public Prosecutors in Magistrate courts, and Section 20 with the Directorate of Prosecution.
  • Advocates Act, 1961: governs enrolment with a State Bar Council. Your three years of practice are counted from enrolment.
  • Constitution of India: Article 16 guarantees equal opportunity in public jobs, Article 16(4) permits reservation, Article 16(6) covers the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, and Article 320 gives UPSC the role of recruiting for government posts.
  • Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016: Section 34 provides reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD).
  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS): Sections 318 (cheating) and 336 (forgery) can apply to false claims or forged documents.
