A Complete Guide to the AILET Entrance Exam

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is the national-level exam conducted by NLU Delhi for admission to its BA LL.B., LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes. This quick guide covers everything you need, from eligibility and syllabus to tips for cracking the exam.

AILET 2026 Syllabus:

For BA LL.B. (Undergraduate)

To begin with, the AILET 2026 for BA LL.B. focuses on three main areas:

  • English Language: This section evaluates grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, sentence correction, and inference-based questions. A strong command of language and critical reading is essential.
  • Current Affairs & General Knowledge: You should stay updated with national and international news, historical events, significant legal developments, awards, and government schemes. Reading newspapers and monthly current affairs magazines is highly recommended.
  • Logical Reasoning: This section tests your ability to understand and analyze arguments, identify assumptions, detect patterns, and draw logical conclusions. Topics may include analogies, series, critical reasoning, syllogisms, and puzzles.

There is no Mathematics section, which makes the test more reading- and reasoning-intensive.

For LL.M. (Postgraduate)

On the other hand, the AILET LL.M. syllabus is more specialized and in-depth. It includes:

  • Constitutional Law
  • Jurisprudence
  • Other major areas like:
    • Law of Contracts
    • Criminal Law
    • Law of Torts
    • International Law
    • Intellectual Property Law

This exam includes both objective (MCQ) and descriptive (essay-type) questions, with an emphasis on legal understanding, application, and analytical skills.
